Highland official: A tuition hike is probable, higher taxes for bonds possible - Susan Vela, Journal Standard

Without a financial boost from Springfield, Highland Community College students are looking at a tuition hike and property owners within the multicounty district may have to bear a greater tax burden. Jill Janssen, vice president of administrative services, delivered some bleak forewarnings at Wednesday’s quarterly retreat for Highland Community College's board of trustees. She told officials the community college seems destined to go without approximately $1.5 million in state funding for operating expenses for the current budget cycle that concludes June 30. The lack of state funding would reduce the college's total anticipated revenue from $14.2 million to $12.7 million, which would leave a deficit of $1.8 million considering the $14.5 million expenses. http://www.journalstandard.com/article/20151205/NEWS/151209755
