Understand who struggling college students really are - Sarah Labadie, Chicago Sun Times

It’s important to remember that many of these students are working adults who are trying to support themselves and their families while also going to school. While it is easy to conjure up a picture of a traditional college student — young, fresh-faced, excited to join the adult world — most of the students eligible for need-based MAP grants are actually independent adults. Many are supporting themselves and simultaneously juggling work, school and family responsibilities.
