WIU, faculty union in layoff discussions - Lainie Steelman, McDonough Voice

Amid a state budget impasse marked by the absence of appropriations for public universities, Western Illinois University administrators and the university’s largest union are meeting this week to discuss possible layoffs. The WIU chapter of University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100 maintains university administrators violated the collective bargaining agreement by disregarding layoff procedure. Bill Thompson, WIU UPI chapter president, confirmed discussions started on Wednesday. The two parties have planned to continue meeting on Wednesdays and Fridays. Thompson reported both parties are talking. http://www.mcdonoughvoice.com/article/20160108/NEWS/160109557
