Kishwaukee College to lay off 25 employees due to state budget issues - Joseph Edwards, 13 WREX

The Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to lay off 25 employees in an effort to adapt to the state budget crisis. Officials presented a budget for fiscal year 2017 in February that showed a $3.8 million deficit and an anticipated 50 percent reduction in state aid. College officials say they have yet to receive state aid payments for the current fiscal year. The layoff plan approved Tuesday would cut 25 positions and would eliminate several vacant positions. The college anticipates the layoffs will save some $1 million, while another $1.1 million will be saved by not filling the vacant positions. http://www.journalstandard.com/article/20160309/NEWS/160309473
