Our View: Pa. gets a budget, but no end in sight to Illinois' woes - Rockford Register Star
We got excited when we saw this come across our Twitter feed: “Governor caves after nine-month impasse.” Alas, the tweet was not about Illinois, but Pennsylvania, which seems nearly as dysfunctional as Illinois. In the Keystone State, it’s a Democratic governor battling Republican legislators. Of course, here in the Land of Lincoln it’s a Republican governor and a Democratic legislature. Don’t you just love partisan politics? Community colleges and state universities where Illinois’ intellectual capital is developed are having trouble keeping their doors open. Southern Illinois University expects to lay off several hundred employees; Northeastern Illinois will require 1,000 employees to take a day off each week without pay; Chicago State University may close altogether.
