JCTC reorganizes after layoffs - Chris Kenning, Courier-Journal

In the wake of 95 staff and faculty layoffs at Jefferson Community & Technical College as a result of declining enrollment, JCTC President Ty J. Handy gathered with staff Wednesday to outline restructuring and make assurances that no additional layoffs were immediately planned. “Some awfully tough conversations had to be held,” he said about the layoffs announced in recent weeks, but “this is the final round of cuts I intend to make,” unless enrollment suffers further significant declines. Enrollment has declined from a peak of 15,000 in 2010 to 10,700 this spring, which has created an $8.5 million deficit. On April 28, the community college notified 32 faculty members and two advisers that their positions were being eliminated by June 30.
