State Budget Woes Have Hundreds of College Employees Unionizing - WTVO

Faculty at Northern Illinois University filed an intent to unionize Thursday with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board according to a news release from the International Federation of Teachers. It's the second group of university employees in northern Illinois to announce their intent to unionize in two days. Named the 'United Faculty Alliance of Northern Illinois University', it would represent more than 600 tenured and tenured track faculty. The move comes in the midst of a state budget crisis which has left funding for higher education in limbo. Governor Bruce Rauner recently signed emergency funding to help keep Illinois' public colleges and universities open, but with the exception of Chicago State University, the funding only accounts for 30% of each school's state funding for the year. http://www.mystateline.com/news/state-budget-woes-have-hundreds-of-college-employees-unionizing
