UC Berkeley-UCSF community medical program at risk of closure - Kevin Schultz, San Francisco Chronicle

A unique program at UC Berkeley created to give future doctors a social conscience before they’re sent to UCSF to finish their medical training is being targeted for closure as the university grapples with a severe budget deficit. For 40 years the program has pushed students to work in the community, with most choosing volunteer organizations like the Suitcase Clinic, which offers health and social services to underserved populations throughout Berkeley.
