New Mexico State athletics cuts more than $400,000 to balance budget - Jason Groves, Las Cruces Sun-News

The New Mexico State University athletics department recently had to cut about 2.3 percent, or $424,800, from its current operating budget. The athletics staff was made aware earlier this year of reductions to its budget caused by a $250,000 ticket revenue shortfall, a $154,400 student fees cut and a $20,400 midyear reduction by the state of New Mexico. Programs within the department each had to make cuts to their operating budgets in order to balance the department's budget, which was $17.9 million to start the fiscal year. All 15 coaches made sacrifices, sometimes dipping into fundraising accounts or taking coaches off the recruiting trail in an effort to cut spending, university officials said. The athletic department also elected to keep some internal positions open. http://www.lcsun-news.com/story/sports/2016/06/05/new-mexico-state-athletics-cuts-more-than-400000-balance-budget/85369734/
