Candidates: Inflated university pensions, salaries weighing on system - Rock Island Today

Brandi McGuire, a Republican running for the 72nd District State House seat, responded recently to the state’s current woes with her own perspective on university professors’ pay, asking whether their compensation is fair. McGuire said the real financial strain crippling Illinois' public universities is funding pensions and professors’ salaries. Back in 2005, 39,800 university retirees were receiving benefits from SURS. By 2014, that number had grown to 59,406, with 1,443 retirees collecting over $100,000 in pension benefits and 55 collecting more than $200,000, the Better Government Association said. http://rockislandtoday.com/stories/510974501-candidates-inflated-university-pensions-salaries-weighing-on-system
