Portales and Clovis education systems are taking precautionary measures by tightening their fiscal belts, despite current state budget cuts not affecting education, according to state officials. According to a Tuesday Associated Press story, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez has requested state institutions cut back budget spending by 5 percent.
