ECC sent layoff notices to 15 staff members - Janelle Walker, Elgin Courier-News

Elgin Community College has sent letters to 15 staff members in the last few weeks, informing them that their position has been eliminated, said Sharon Konny, vice president of business and finance. Classes started Monday at the school, which saw enrollment dip by about 2 percent, said Toya Webb, director of communications. As of Sunday there are 9,575 students enrolled there, she said. Those jobs cuts — approved earlier this year by the ECC board — have come from several divisions within the school including teaching, learning and student development; business and finance; information technologies and food services, Konny said. Although the stop-gap budget appropriation passed June 30 by the Illinois General Assembly and signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner allocates about $2.1 million for the Elgin college, those funds are nearly half what the school had received in the past. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/elgin-courier-news/news/ct-ecn-elgin-ecc-layoff-notices-st-0823-20160822-story.html
