Parkland trustees approve $55.3 million budget - Tom Kacich, News-Gazette

Parkland College trustees Wednesday night approved a budget that is 3 percent less than last year's but which board Chairman Dana Trimble said still would allow for quality education. But while last year's budget was upset by the virtual elimination of any state funding, this year's projects only $2.5 million in money from the state government. In past years, Parkland counted on about $5 million from Springfield. Fifty years ago when Parkland was organized, Illinois' community college funding goal was one-third from local property taxes, one-third from the state and one-third from tuition. This year's Parkland budget calls for 38 percent funding from property taxes, 5 percent from the state and 55 percent from tuition. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2016-09-22/parkland-trustees-approve-553-million-budget.html
