Alberta tuition freeze is like 'being stoned to death with popcorn,' says MacEwan president - JURIS GRANEY, Edmonton Journal

Tuition freezes by successive provincial governments in Alberta is like “being stoned to death with popcorn,” says MacEwan University president David Atkinson. Not alone in his concern that the NDP government’s continuation of a tuition freeze into a third year may not be backfilled, Atkinson said the university could see a $1.3-million shortfall. When the freeze was first enacted in 2015, the government gifted all post-secondary institutions with $16 million to make up for the tuition shortfall. That same commitment was absent from last week’s announcement, which also included news of a top-to-bottom funding review with an eye to have a new model in place for the start of the 2018-19 fall semester. http://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/alberta-tuition-freeze-is-like-being-stoned-to-death-with-popcorn-says-macewan-president
