Barnett tells FHSU faculty senate to expect 6 percent budget cut - JUNO OGLE, Daily News

The acting president of Fort Hays State University spoke to the Faculty Senate on Tuesday and delivered a grim message about the budget. In the first meeting of the faculty group since the abrupt departure of Mirta Martin on Nov. 23, Mike Barnett started with words of encouragement for the faculty. The Kansas Department of Revenue’s report at the beginning of the month shows an expected $348 million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year, which started in July. Barnett, who is the university’s vice president of administration and finance, said he has heard FHSU could see another cut of approximately 6 percent in the upcoming legislative session, probably in February or March. That would amount to nearly $1.9 million, and would be in addition to a 3-percent cut of $1.6 million that happened at the start of the fiscal year. http://www.hdnews.net/news/barnett-tells-fhsu-faculty-senate-to-expect-percent-budget-cut/article_415b0c07-899b-5cb7-81c3-8625061510ec.htm
