The struggles of Eastern Illinois University have been chosen as the JG-TC's No. 1 story in the Coles County area for 2016. In February, as Illinois moved into its eighth month without a budget, Eastern announced plans for an estimated 200 layoffs of non-instructional employees -- as well as furloughing all administrative and professional staff additionally in March to make it through the spring semester.
