Florida colleges could see big budget cuts - Laura Hussey, WEAR TV

Big budget cuts to higher education could be coming out of the legislature and Florida's 28 state colleges could bear the brunt. The Florida Senate's initial recommendation slashes $131 million total. State colleges would absorb 74 percent of those cuts. In our area, both Pensacola State College (PSC) and Northwest Florida State College would be affected. Remedial programs would take the biggest hit, roughly a 50 percent cut. Student Haley Schipper said the targeted labs in math and writing have helped her get better grades. She said, "Those labs allow students to come in and just have a safe environment to learn more about a topic they may have trouble with." http://weartv.com/news/local/florida-colleges-could-see-big-budget-cuts
