Tidewater Community College lays off 27 people after enrollment drops, state budget cut - Kimberly Pierceall, The Virginian-Pilot

Tidewater Community College is laying off 27 people as it contends with a steep drop in the number of enrolled students and state budget cuts to higher education. College spokeswoman Marian Anderfuren confirmed the layoffs Wednesday. Of the 27 positions affected, 17 are full-time employees in administrative roles. None are faculty or teaching positions, she said. With less money coming in from the state and tuition, the school was facing an $8.5 million budget gap. In addition to the layoffs, the college won’t be filling vacant positions, including executive level positions, saving $5 million. http://pilotonline.com/news/local/education/higher-education/tcc-today/tidewater-community-college-lays-off-people-after-enrollment-drops-state/article_829a34f7-7355-5321-b6f6-2afaa217c7b9.html
