Gulf Coast State College weathers $1 million in cuts - Erin Dion, News Herald

At the end of the legislative back-and-forth and weeks of uncertainty, Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) is facing a million-dollar cut in their operating budget. About $700,000 of that is part of a $30 million cut to the Florida college system, which GCSC President John Holdnak said trimmed about 3.5 percent from each of the state’s 28 colleges. Meanwhile, the state’s university system will receive about $400 million in new money. With Florida’s college system consistently ranked one of, if not the, best in the country, that disparity has Holdnak concerned. “You can’t take $30 million, or 3.5 percent, out of each school’s budget and not have it hurt,” Holdnak said. “We run really tight. We’re not in the best possible shape we could be to deal with whatever the future is going to be.” http://www.newsherald.com/news/20170619/gulf-coast-state-college-weathers-1-million-in-cuts
