Missouri public universities across state feel affect of budget cut - J. “MILES” VENTIMIGLIA, DSJ Now

State funding cuts are difficult for public higher education, with hundreds of jobs left vacant and informal mentions about whether to reduce the number of state universities. The effect of budget cuts is felt harder at the University of Central Missouri than at most of the state’s universities, with some 200 jobs vacated through early retirement, a hiring freeze and elimination of nearly a quarter of graduate assistantships. “I can’t say it’s not hard, I can’t say higher ed isn’t feeling the anxiety of a lot of change that is affecting morale,” President Charles Ambrose said.
