Oklahoma State U Dean breaks down budget cuts - Dianna F. Dandridge-Rystrom, Sequoya County Times
Like most state agencies, the Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service, is faced with budget cuts that reach into every corner of the organization. Vice President for Agricultural Programs Dean Tom Coon, at OSU explained that the cuts that were recently announced are nothing new and the funding is extremely complicated. The cuts include having one ag-educator for two counties instead of two per county. “Funding for College of Agricultural Science, the Ag-experiment station and the Cooperative Extension Service has three different purposes and receives funding differently for each purpose,” Coon said. “The Cooperative Extension and the experiment stations get no funding from tuition.” Coon said the Department of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources (DASNR) has lost 25 percent of its state funding since 2015, which equal about a $13 million loss.
