Meager enrollment, generous salaries at Chicago State University - Benjamin Yount, Illinois News Network

Almost all of Illinois' public universities have fewer students on campus this fall. But Chicago State University has the fewest of them all. Chicago State's freshman class this fall is actually larger than last year, but it is still tiny by most any measure: just 145 freshman enrolled. The university said that's up from 90 last year. Overall, just over 2,400 students are on campus, about 900 of them are graduate students. That's down 11 percent from last year, and 33 percent from two years ago. If those rates continue, that means just 84 of the 145 freshmen will likely return next year, and just 16 will graduate in six years. The last budget report available, from two years ago, shows a $99 million operating budget.A good chunk of that goes to salaries. CSU pays 16 percent of its workers more than $100,000 a year, according to online data posted by the state. Of the 505 people on the payroll, 83 pulled down six figure salaries. https://www.ilnews.org/news/schools/meager-enrollment-generous-salaries-at-chicago-state-university/article_3d85624a-a3b3-11e7-9163-97e476f9f987.html
