PSU president to students, alums - Help us get the budget done - John L. Micek, Penn Live

In an open letter sent out Wednesday evening, Penn State President Eric J. Barron sounds an alarm bell as the state heads into its fourth month without a finished spending plan. Lawmakers have yet to give final approval to both a revenue bill paying for the $32 billion spending plan that landed on Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf's desk on June 30 and separate pieces of enabling legislation that, among other things, provide Penn State and three, other state-related universities with their share of taxpayer funding. "Three months after this fiscal year's budget deadline, legislators in Harrisburg have not yet finalized the Commonwealth's budget," Barron wrote. "This puts the in-state tuition rate in jeopardy, and it would compromise our ability to conduct the research, extension education and health services that are vital to our citizens," he continued. Barron urges "every Pennsylvania resident in our Penn State community to contact their state legislator to encourage them to finish the state budget and fund Penn State." http://www.pennlive.com/capitol-notebook/2017/09/psu_prez_to_students_alums_-_h.html
