Montana’s fragmented University System struggles to pull together - Gail Schontzler, Bozeman Chronicle
Montana’s colleges and universities originated 124 years ago as separate, distant, often competing campuses. For the last 24 years, higher education leaders have been trying to pull the state’s eight campuses together to function more like one system, the Montana University System. It hasn’t been easy. At the state Board of Regents’ meeting last week at Montana State University, leaders talked about two big challenges: making it easier for students to transfer course credits from one campus to another, and investigating whether the current organization structure needs to change.
