Buyouts could save jobs lost to layoffs at St. Louis Community College - Ashley Jost, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Less than a week after several dozen people were laid off from St. Louis Community College, the school’s governing board has approved two voluntary buyout programs. The buyouts could save some of the jobs of people who were notified last week. College spokeswoman Kedra Tolson confirmed that 58 faculty members were laid off last week. Staff members facing layoffs will be notified in March, she said. The college’s Board of Trustees gave administrators the green light to cut up to 70 faculty and 25 staff at a Nov. 30 meeting. The buyouts will offer benefits similar to those offered earlier this year when 120 employees left. College leaders continue to look for ways to save as an enrollment drop and a dip in state funding for higher education plagues the community college’s budget. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/notes-from-campus/buyouts-could-save-jobs-lost-to-layoffs-at-st-louis/article_7cdcdc14-a62c-5f56-a03e-70d066a22420.html
