As the 2018 legislative session approaches, Kentucky State University is girding itself to fight for its portion of the 2018-20 state budget. “Let’s just call it like it is,” Regent Paul Harnice told his colleagues upon hearing that the university would need an additional $1.4 million next year to cover rising contributions to the public pension systems. “This is going to be bad; this is going to be hard.” Last month, the school submitted to state Budget Director John Chilton its biennial budget request, which KSU President M.
