Performance-based funding for Alabama 2-year colleges to start next year - Mary Sell, Decatur Daily
Alabama’s community colleges can expect at least a slight change in the money they receive from the state in 2019, but a lawmaker says moving toward performance-based funding may not mean a cut for some schools. At least initially. A task force charged with coming up with recommendations for how community colleges are scored and how funding is distributed based on successes has until the end of the year to get a proposal to the Legislature. Lawmakers this year created the committee to come up with an outcome-based funding model for the two-year colleges instead of basing annual allocations on previous amounts given or basic enrollment numbers. Funding factors such as graduation and retention rates eventually will be considered.
