Proposed state budget cuts could cut millions of dollars of funding for the University of Nebraska system. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, NU President Hank Bounds announced how a new governor-proposed budget plan would negatively impact the university. “The governor is asking us to shoulder one-third of his proposed cuts, despite the fact that we comprise only 13 percent of the state’s total budget,” Bounds said. With this proposal, this year’s funding would be cut by $11 million, followed by $23 million the next year.
