House would cut Broward College budget by $381,000 — the cost of president's sabbatical - Scott Travis, Sun-Sentinel

Broward College’s decision to give retiring President David Armstrong a $381,000 sabbatical could end up costing the college that same amount in state funding. House Speaker Richard Corcoran cut the school’s funding by $381,0000 in the proposed House budget after the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Armstrong would get a one-year sabbatical with full pay and benefits once he steps down. His only duties during that time would be to serve in an advisory role to the new president, Board of Trustees and others at the college. “The Speaker believes arrangements like the one at Broward College should not be the practice in public institutions,” said Fred Piccolo, a spokesman for Corcoran. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/education/fl-broward-college-sabbatical-speake-20180124-story.html
