Iowa State University students urge against budget cuts to Regent universities in petition - Caitlin Ware, Ames Tribune
In response to an ongoing discussion regarding proposed cuts in state funding for Iowa’s public universities, and rising tuition rates as a result, a petition asking for greater investment in higher education is circulating around Iowa State University’s campus. ISU Student Body Vice President Cody Smith said that the petition came about as a result of recent discussions regarding the state budget, and how changes on the horizon would impact the public universities governed by the Iowa Board of Regents. There is currently no consensus yet between the governor, House and Senate as to how much in total midyear cuts will be needed to keep the state’s budget positive at the end of fiscal year 2018, and what portion of the cuts would be directed at the Regents. Appropriations for fiscal year 2019 have yet to be discussed in depth.
