Lawmakers strike deal cutting $35.5 million — $11 million from Board of Regents alone — from state budget - Brianne Pfannenstiel and William Petroski, The Des Moines Register

Following weeks of negotiations, Iowa legislators have agreed to a deal cutting state programs and services by about $35.5 million this year in an effort to balance the budget, with state universities shouldering the heaviest share. The Iowa Board of Regents will see about $11 million in cuts for the current budget year ending June 30, although the House stipulated that those cuts cannot be made to the University of Northern Iowa. UNI accepts a higher percentage of in-state students who pay lower tuition rates than the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. Lawmakers said they felt it was important to support the school and Iowa students. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2018/03/20/lawmakers-strike-deal-cutting-35-5-million-state-budget-including-11-million-board-regents/441478002/
