Our View: Grim forecast for tuition rates - Joplin Globe
The proposed cuts in appropriations to Missouri's institutions of higher education would have a profound effect on tuition and, in our view, the ability of students to continue their quest for a college degree. Missouri Southern State University President Alan Marble on Friday described a grim forecast for tuition rates. Joplin's university, in order to offset cuts, would have to raise tuition by 20 percent next year or an increase of $41 per credit hour. Such action would mean that a full-time student taking 30 credit hours for a year would see a jump from $5,501.10, excluding fees, to $6,731.10 per year. That's an increase of more than $1,000. It's an unthinkable leap.
