"The cuts truly impact everyone." UNK Student Government voicing concerns regarding budget cuts - TIFFANY STOIBER, Kearney Hub
While many students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney still are processing the effect of the budget cuts announced last week, the UNK Student Government has been working to make sure their voices are heard. With the university facing a $3.4 million budget gap - caused by decreased state appropriations, declining credit hour production, and scheduled salary and benefit increases - UNK announced cuts to three sports teams and 38 positions. “I think students are frustrated and shocked about these cuts,” UNK Student Body Vice President Ivy Prater wrote in an email. “The cuts truly impact everyone. 56 students will no longer be able to participate in the sports they enjoy after this year. Students will also be impacted from the elimination of 16 faculty positions.”
