WKU group nears release of budget cut recommendations - AARON MUDD, BG Daily News

Facing a roughly $27 million budget shortfall, Western Kentucky University’s Board of Regents will hear cost-saving recommendations from the university’s Budget Council on Friday. With widespread cuts expected to be announced soon at WKU, the scope and details of those cuts are being closely guarded. An agenda for the regents’ first quarterly meeting lists a “Budget Stabilization Plan” as an information item for the board to review. Along with its roughly $15 million current budget shortfall, WKU is also facing a pension payment increase of $7,263,300, a proposed decrease in state funding of $4,619,000 and the elimination of $750,000 for its statewide weather station network, called the Kentucky Mesonet. Given that, WKU’s total budget deficit amounts to $27,632,300. http://www.bgdailynews.com/news/wku-group-nears-release-of-budget-cut-recommendations/article_06d3e961-3a2f-5dc3-a9c9-ad0712099066.html
