It’s a dire time for higher education, University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld told the state’s Board of Regents Thursday, as he announced that his campus will halt construction for the next five months to make ends meet. The move comes after last-minute budget cuts out of the Legislature left UI with a shortfall, though Harreld warned that the moratorium isn't a long-term fix. University leadership will decide whether to prolong the moratorium at the end of five months.
