University of Akron anticipates enrollment declines, budget cuts - RACHEL ABBEY MCCAFFERTY, Crain's Cleveland Business

The University of Akron expects enrollment to drop by about 7% in the 2018-2019 school year, and it's projecting a deficit of about $16 million for fiscal year 2018-2019. The university's board of trustees on Wednesday, June 13, approved the budgets for fiscal year 2018-2019, which runs from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019. Total general fund revenue is expected to be about $323 million next fiscal year, a decrease that reflects the expected drop in enrollment, according to a news release. The release attributed the enrollment decline to a "downward trend of enrollment over the last several years," including a steep decline in freshman enrollment that took place in fall 2016, and implementation of the university's strategy to admit "better prepared students." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20180613/news/165036/university-akron-anticipates-enrollment-declines-budget-cuts
