Cuts looming at Shawnee State after drop in enrollment - WSAZ
A drop in student enrollment is forcing cuts to Shawnee State University. The university's primary source of revenue comes from tuition. According to university spokeswoman Elizabeth Blevins, early estimates show there are 325 less students on campus this fall than last year. Blevins says the university's board has approved a $3 million deficit budget. The school is using $3 million in reserves and needs to cut $6 million in expenses from their operating budget. School divisions are meeting, going line by line, to figure out where and how expenses will be cut, according to Blevins. She says it is too soon to know how positions or programs could be affected.
