Budget cuts working, but more work to be done, NU says - CHRIS DUNKER, Lincoln Journal Star
Efforts to cut $22 million across the University of Nebraska system to help close a $46 million budget gap are working, the Board of Regents learned Wednesday. A year after NU’s budget-response teams identified 66 processes that could be eliminated or consolidated, largely in operational areas that don’t affect the university’s academic offerings, those plans are now being refined at the campus level. Marjorie Kostelnik, a senior associate to NU President Hank Bounds overseeing the budget-reduction process, said after 20 months of work, the implementation phase could last another year, even more. But, she said, administrators are confident that NU’s operations are being trimmed and savings are being captured.
