Enrollment increased to record levels. Now, the opposite is happening: The economy improved, businesses are expanding and there are jobs for everyone who wants one. Candidates leaving one job don’t necessarily have to retrain. Businesses are looking to hire. “So enrollment is down, but not frighteningly so,” said Sprouse. But the college can’t sit, waiting for a downturn in business. They are, Sprouse said, working to find more ways to be useful. For example, some jobs still require training, still require skilled people and still need people with soft skills including work ethic, teamwork, professionalism and conflict resolution.
