Nine U.S. Department of Agriculture scientists at the University of Illinois have been furloughed, and their research put on hold, because of the partial federal government shutdown. But so far, the effects of the two-week budget standoff over President Donald Trump's proposed border wall haven't been widespread on campus, partly because it hit over a holiday break, UI officials said Thursday. "If it goes on for an extended period, it could become problematic," said campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler.
