Hampshire College Announces It Will Admit A Skeleton Class For The Fall - Susan Adams, Forbes

At 7pm this evening, the chair and two vice chairs of the board of Hampshire College issued a letter saying the beleaguered small liberal arts school of 1,300 students in Amherst, Massachusetts would admit a small fall class consisting of students who had applied and been admitted under Hampshire’s early admissions policy and gap-year students who were admitted for last year’s class and then granted a year’s leave before starting school. The decision comes after an announcement by President Miriam E. Nelson two weeks ago that Hampshire was searching for “a long-term partner that can help us achieve a thriving and sustainable future.” Like many small colleges, Hampshire is confronting the realities of a shrinking population of would-be college students aged 17 to 22, rising concern about student debt and an increased focus on career-oriented degrees and coding boot camps. https://www.forbes.com/sites/susanadams/2019/02/01/hampshire-college-announces-it-will-admit-a-skeleton-class-for-the-fall/#5ad996c5370e
