The Mohawk Valley Community College 2019-20 budget includes seven layoffs, but none for faculty. It cuts another eight positions by axing vacant jobs, said Alen Smajic, executive director of marketing and communications. But the $51,380,242 million budget adds two new administrative positions. The total of 15 positions that were cut from across many departments saved $1.9 million in a budget that started with a $5.1 million deficit, he said. “We’ve had a deficit for a few years and it mostly has to do with declining enrollment, which started after the recession,” he said.
