Auburn University plans to weather decreases in federal funding - Lilly Jackson, Alabama.com

The state of Alabama could lose more than $40 million in research funding in 2020 and Auburn University will feel the losses. The Science Coalition, a non-profit organization that works to sustain the federal government’s investment in basic scientific research, said federally funded research institutions stand to lose billions without a lift of spending caps implemented by the Budget Control Act. The act, put in place in 2011, gives congress the ability place budget enforcement mechanisms that mandate specific budgetary policies or fiscal outcomes.
