K-State is facing a 4% budget cut, a university official said at Monday’s intergovernmental meeting, but its main focus for the upcoming year will be recruitment. “It’s going to be a challenging budget year for us,” said Linda Cook, chief of staff and director of community relations at Kansas State University. Cook spoke at a meeting Monday that included representatives from USD 383, Fort Riley, the city of Manhattan and Riley County. As The Mercury reported last week, K-State deans have been told to prepare for cuts.
