Governor, state senators continue to back Cheyney despite struggles - Michael D’Onofrio, Philadelphia Tribune

As financial and legal troubles batter Cheyney University, the school continues to have friends in high places. Gov. Tom Wolf and state senators maintained their long-time support of the nation’s oldest historically Black university this week following a whistleblower complaint that alleges the school misused federal funding for scholarships. “Cheyney University, as the nation’s first historically black university, is an important educational resource for many Pennsylvania students,” said Wolf spokesman J.J. Abbott in an email.
