Western Michigan University said they need to cut the $31 million athletic budget by 20% because of the COVID-19 pandemic projected shortfall. The good news is that Western Michigan University said they would not be cutting any of their 16 athletic teams, the minimum needed to compete at the Division-1 Football Bowl Subdivision level. The bad news is that the university needs to cut $6 million from the budget before the start of the new fiscal year which begins on July 1, 2020.
