ISU Athletics proposes closures, cuts due to budget deficit - Todd Magel, WCCI

In a letter to Cyclone fans Friday, Iowa State University athletic director Jamie Pollard warned of financial challenges ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic and said layoffs and the elimination of some sports are under consideration. Pollard said a financial summary for the athletic department was shared with the Iowa Board of Regents that projected a budget deficit of about $17.5 million. Pollard said that projection assumed there would be fans at football games. The university has since decided not to have fans in attendance at the home opener on Sept. 12.
