Faculty members anxious about future budget cuts - Audra Nikolajski, Oracle

USF faculty members are facing possible layoffs and program removals as a result of COVID-19 financial effects in Florida. Amid future budget cuts in state funding for the 2020-21 fiscal year, USF faculty were left wondering whether their programs or jobs will be eliminated by administration in the coming months.  The Board of Trustees on Aug. 19 approved a reduction plan to cut 8.5%, or $36.7 million, in state funding for the 2020-21 fiscal year. For Timothy Boaz, president of the Faculty Senate and associate professor in the department of mental health law and policy, the budget cuts will cause “ripple effects” throughout the university as a whole.
