Public colleges in Rhode Island are facing a funding crisis, as the coronavirus pandemic drains the state budget and puts the funding future of higher education in question. The financial woes have already spurred dozens of layoffs at the Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College, something Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education Chair Tim DelGiudice worries will only get worse. "We are looking at about a 15% reduction from our current service level unless we get some sort of federal relief package," DelGuidice said.
