'It’s crippling': COVID-19 pandemic has financially thrashed college athletic departments- Craig Meyer, Pittsburg Post-Gazette

 The far-reaching impact of the COVID-19 pandemic financially has ransacked college athletic departments across the country, including those in Western Pennsylvania. With many teams sidelined, seasons postponed or shortened and fans largely prohibited from attending games, schools have been deprived of precious resources — ticket sales, money from guarantee games, a percentage of donations — that allowed them to thrive or, at the very least, function. Previously unforeseen costs, primarily related to virus testing, have emerged. Painful cuts have had to be made.
